Introducing...Ashleigh Grier, MSE, NCC

Hello, my name is Ashleigh Grier and I am the new Therapist for Marathon Youth Services Inc. The following will give you some background on who I am, the experiences I have had and my philosophy of counseling.

My undergraduate degree is from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Human Services and I have a minor in Sociology. My Master’s Degree is in Community Counseling also from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I am a member of the American Counseling Association, Wisconsin Counseling Association, I am a National Certified Counselor and I hold a Wisconsin Professional Counselor- in training license.  I have thirst for learning more about counseling and enjoy attending professional conferences and trainings.

Much of my work history has been working with individuals and family members of those who are diagnosed with mental illnesses and have alcohol or drug related problems. I have a variety of experiences that have lead me to where I am today but they all have one common theme. I enjoy working with people and empowering individuals to help themselves. I believe that counseling can help anyone find the tools they need to live their lives.

My foundation in counseling comes from the Person-Centered and Cognitive- Behavioral approaches. I would like to facilitate a safe environment for my clients to work towards the best version of self. I’ve found that by exploring how to take responsibility for one’s own choices a person can learn how to take charge of their life, to make it what they want. As a personally compassionate Therapist I believe in pursing understanding about each individual I meet with. I conceptualize how to care for others in relationship to their unique environments and cultural backgrounds. I believe that every person has their own unique story to tell and that their experiences are what make them an expert on their own life.
